Fasteners

While selecting fasteners, the design life of the structure should be kept in mind, because the fasteners and the cladding material should have similar life expectancy. It is always advisable to use screws conforming to AS3566 Standards of Class 3 or better. Few precautions should be taken for fasteners :

Stainless steel fasteners must not be used with Al-Zn steel in severe environment.

Lead headed nails must not be used.

Do not use washers containing black carbon as these will promote corrosion.
     Do not spot solder.

Integral fastening refers to joining pieces without the need for additional fasteners or welding. Al-Zn steel can be used in operations like bending, folding, stamping, punching or crimping. No screws, rivets or other mechanical fasteners are required.
